I have been thinking about becoming a teacher for some time, and losing my employment in September was the event that precipitated my decision to sign up for the Provincial Instructor Diploma Program. The decision to register was not made without some trepidation. I haven't done any formal studying for 20+ years, beyond a few days of career specific training here and there. I was excited about exploring an online course, thinking that it would provide the flexibility to work and study from home. This certainly has proven to be convenient, but has also proven to be frustrating.
Embracing technology is easier said than done!
Moodle is designed for those who don't have too much familiarity with the world of online education, and I happily read articles, listened to YouTube tutorials, and browsed to my heart's desire. Skyping with my instructor Glenn was simple and provided me with good guidelines for the course. My skype calls with my learning partner, Shinobu, provided much appreciated support and a feeling of camaraderie. I feel that the Trends & Roles assignment is fairly straightforward, now if I could just figure out how to link to the programs' Facebook page. The one thing I've learnt from this experience is that everything takes longer than expected, as I need to find a tutorial to help me figure out technical issues that I can't figure out on my own. Oh, to raise my hand and have a teacher come to my desk! However, I must admit that I am learning, and isn't that the whole point of the exercise!
